Directions to the Morton / Lofts Cottage

The cottage is in Oxenden but no one has heard of that so we say it is in Wiarton on Colpoy's Bay.

First you need to get to Wiarton. From Guelph we'd just take highway 6 all the way north. From Toronto I'd suggest the 400 to 26 or maybe get to Shelburne and take 10 up to 6.

(Note : if you are coming up 6 into Owen Sound I would recommend taking the alternate 6 route. You will have to make a left before Owen Sound at Rockford and then a right at Squire but it will save you driving through Owen Sound)

Once in Wiarton you want to turn right on Frank St. It is also the road that has the airport on it so there are the plane signs you can watch for. Stay on Frank until you get to Oxenden and make a left on Havelock Street - it is called Zion Church Road to the right. As you come down the hill towards the water the road bends to the right and becomes Old Mill Road. We are number 174 Old Mill Road.

Ok I'll try and tell you in words how to get to the cottage. Then you look on map quest and see if it makes sense. :)

  1. Go to Wiarton...only one main road goes up there When you are in Wiarton, the road is called Berford Street
  2. You need to turn right on Frank Street. This street is before you really hit the downtown area. Just before the turn there is a "convenience" store...(red sign)...(it is actually called that - how convenient) There will also be an airport sign....in case you fly in :)
  3. Follow Frank Street for a little while. This road is now called county rd 26 You will be looping around the Bay...look out your left
  4. Once you see a sign for Oxenden (on your right) slow down You will turn left very soon. Look for a large grey building ...turn left (towards the water) just after it. This road is called Havelock Street
  5. You should now be driving straight down to the water. As you follow the road it will bend right (sharply)...now you are on Old Mill Road
  6. Drive down Old Mill past the public launch...our winter bathroom :( Our number 174 (green 911 sign) Take note of all the really large homes on your right - those aren't ours Ours is a white cottage with blue shutters (although you can't see it until you have driven by). There is also a large deck in the front....a smoking BBQ, lots of beer, a badminton net and three kids running back and forth across the road.
