Director, Diane Nicholson
Thanks to her father, Diane Nicholson has grown up with barbershop harmony in her life. Through his involvement, at eighteen, she joined Harmony, Inc.'s local chapter, the Tune Twisters. She was subsequently a member of Harmony Niagara, and then a member of the Pride of Niagara when the two former chapters merged in 1993 and continues directing us under our new name: Sing Niagara!
Since 2006, Diane has also directed The St. Catharines Singing Saints, the men's chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Always giving 110%, Diane has played an active role in her chapters, participating in both administrative and musical duties.
Diane has a stellar quartet history. In the late eighties, singing baritone with Sweet Inspiration, she placed 4th internationally and singing baritone with Chapter 4, placed second in 1991. Always ready for another challenge, Diane is currently singing bass in Vocal FX.
In 1999, Diane became the director of the Pride of Niagara. That year, she also had the honour of sharing the stage with Frank Mills on his final cross Canada tour. In 2000, Diane was awarded the Novice Director award for Harmony, Inc. and in 2004, Diane led the chorus to another award, the most improved chorus, with an impressive 8 place improvement in ranking and a top 10 finish in Harmony's International Contest.
A strong advocate of continuous improvement for her chorus members, Diane also works hard at improving her own skills, with participation in Harmony, Inc.'s annual training school and most recently, her participation in Director's University, sponsored by the Barbershop Harmony Society, where, given her wonderful vocal range, she was told, she could be a 'one woman quartet!'
Diane has a true passion for the music. She brings this passion, energy, enthusiasm, and constant striving for continuous improvement and personal growth to the chorus. Sing Niagara considers ourselves very fortunate to have Diane as our talented director.
